Adelaide Aged Care Assessment Team (AACAT)

The Adelaide Aged Care Assessment Team (AACAT) was established in July 2004 to provide assessment, information and advice to older people in who are finding it difficult to manage at home.

The AACAT is the South Australian auspice of the Aged Care Assessment Program, a program existing throughout Australia and funded by the Commonwealth Government.

An Aged Care Assessment is required:

  • if someone is thinking of applying for community packages of care funded by the Commonwealth (e.g. Community Aged Care Packages (CACPs) or Extended Aged Care at Home Packages (EACHPs),
  • to arrange respite care in a residential aged care facility, or
  • to move permanently to a residential aged care facility.

Referrals to AACAT will be accepted from any person with a legitimate interest in the older person, with consent from the older person.
